How Specialty Woodworks Eliminated Dust and Heat Discomfort with High-Velocity Industrial Fans

Specialty Woodworks, known for crafting high-quality wood products, faced a unique problem as air conditioning was not an option. The moisture from an HVAC system would warp and damage their sensitive inventory. At the same time, rising temperatures inside the shop made for tough working conditions. Adding to the challenge, any air movement had to be carefully controlled to avoid stirring up sawdust, which posed both safety and product quality concerns.

Rather than turn to a faceless national supplier, Specialty Woodworks reached out to their local manufacturer, Patterson Fan. With deep expertise in industrial airflow, their sales rep, John, took a hands-on approach, recommending the right size and number of HVLS (High-Volume, Low-Speed) fans to suit the shop’s layout and environment.

But the support didn’t stop there. “He invited us to visit Patterson to see the fans in action before making a decision,” said Susan, the Specialty Woodworks manager recalls. “That made all the difference.”

The Results

Like many businesses investing in new equipment, Specialty Woodworks had its share of concerns. Would the fans actually cool the space, or just circulate hot air? What about service, warranties, and replacement parts?

“John answered all our questions and walked us through every scenario,” Susan shared. “Seeing the fans in action and understanding the support behind them put our minds at ease.”

Although team members had seen competitor products at trade shows, the decision to stick with a local company came naturally. “We try to support other local businesses whenever possible,” said the Specialty Woodworks manager. “Once we saw the product and experienced Patterson’s approach firsthand, there was no doubt who we were going with.”

The impact was immediate. While South Carolina’s sweltering summers are still a force to be reckoned with, Patterson’s HVLS fans brought welcome relief, and just as importantly, sawdust stayed put.

“Our woodworkers can now focus on their craft without being distracted by the heat,” said Susan. “Happy, comfortable employees make for a more productive shop.”
